YOGA. STILLNESS IN ACTION. POSTURE & GESTURES IN ART
About the Presentation
Yoga. Stillness in Action. Posture and Gestures in Art – Robijn Alexanda Over time artists have assimilated aspects of several religions and incorporated physical and metaphysical aspects to present a concept of transformation through body posture and gestures. This presentation is a brief history of yoga in art. Yoga has an association with health and well-being. Most of us have attended classes or know someone who practices yoga. In 2014 an Indian yoga teacher was listed as one of the world’s most influential people. In 2015 the UN announced June 21 as International Yoga Day. Yoga has universal appeal and can be practiced at various levels for relaxation or as a discipline, to gain control over the forces of one’s own being. Aspects include attention, contemplation and absorption of the mind and body to achieve a union with the universal spirit.
The talk will be illustrated with visual images of transformation through yoga.
