In our increasingly secular society, many have given up their religious beliefs only to become more spiritual. Investigation into this phenomenon shows a close correlation with the stages of cognitive, psychosocial, moral and faith development outlined progressively by a number of twentieth century psychologists. Could this increase in spirituality be the antidote for the current divisiveness in the world, delivering a truth that is meaningful to everyone, thereby leading to a greater appreciation of our shared humanity?
