From its humble beginning as last on the Society’s 1878 list of six unnumbered objectives, the concept of universal brotherhood rose to third place in 1879, to be elevated to the first of four objectives in 1881. Adaptations in 1886 led to its final formulation as the first of three objectives in the 1894 review.
