Climate Change and the Earth System

Public talk, 1.00 - 2.00 pm, 19 June 2019.

Featured Speaker:Graham Crookham
Venue:The Blavatsky Lodge

Can the earth survive humanity?

About the Presentation

The Earth System is the Earth as a totality; a dynamic, integrated total functioning system in a constant state of movement; driven by interconnected cycles and forces from the planet’s core out to the moon, and powered by the flow of energy from the Sun.   What has been the impact on the Earth System of the exponentially expanding human population in recent centuries?

The Science of Climate Change considers the key mechanisms: cosmic, solar, astronomical, atmospheric and human activity.  It is important not to treat the topic as a belief system, with the inherent rigidity that ensues; but to remain objective and open to alternative perspectives.

About the Presenter

Grahame was first introduced to theosophical literature in the late 1970s and first joined the Theosophical Society in Perth in 1987.  He is the immediate Past President of the Canberra Branch and current Treasurer and Program Committee member.  Grahame, now retired, has a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) and PhD (Civil Engineering Materials).  His interest in the topic was initiated by presentations to Engineers Australia by Will Stefan author or Planet Under Pressure: Challenges and Opportunities (2012) and past Engineers Australia President David Hood, author of Climate Change & Sustainability; It is our Business (2013).
