About the Presentation

A brief history of alchemy examining the symbolism, philosophy and practice of transmutation both materially and spiritually. The insight gleaned from studying illustrations from alchemical treatises, paintings, woodcuts and engravings, particularly during the Renaissance period. Finally, the influence of C G Jung and other great minds since, who have given further insight into the secretive and mystical nature of alchemy—the transmutation of the soul.

About the Presenter

J. Lyn Woodger Grant is a professional artist (A.S.T.C) National Art School, art historian (M.A.) Sydney University, and a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society (FRGS). Over the last five decades she has won over thirty art awards and has presented solo public and commercial exhibitions both here and abroad. Lyn has been a finalist in the Archibald, Sulman, Wynne and Portia Geach awards. Her art/philosophy book, Alchemical Gold (1985) which contains her unique abstracts is now in the rare books libraries of Harvard and Bodleian Oxford.

Although long retired from being an artist/teacher at the National Art School Lyn continues to paint full­ time seeking out beautiful and fragile environments expressed in the Impressionist style, and abstracts based on philosophical, esoteric and spiritual concepts.
